The smile on my then 7 year old daughter's face when she read her name on the front cover of our very first children's book My Magical Brown Unicorn. What began as a strategy to help her with her reading comprehension had become so much more. Her thoughts, her ideas, her words, turned into an actual book that is now being sold all across the world. That experience is at the center of my work and why I love to do what I do.

 

Hello, My name Ren and through my self-publishing company, Royaltee Press LLC, I’ve written and published 7 children’s books with my daughter featuring the stories and likeness of children of color. My most popular book, “Big Hair, Don’t Care” is one of Amazon’s most highly reviewed children’s books in its category and I’ve been named as a top seller on the e-commerce site.

 

I’ve always loved to read and write. I honestly can’t remember a time when I wasn’t doing either one of those two things. I wrote my first book in elementary school and from that moment, I knew this was what I was destined to do.

 

Originally from Atlanta, GA, I attended college at Florida State University, where I received two degrees in International Affairs. After college I found myself traveling the world working for both the Defense and Central Intelligence Agencies for the U.S. Government (yes, you read that right! I worked for the CIA).

 

My career was fascinating and I really enjoyed it. But, I still knew there were books inside of me to write. So one day I decided to resign from my position and return to what I’ve always known was my calling.

 

Now, here I am, filling diversity gaps in children’s literature and doing my part to normalize black girl magic and black boy joy.  

 

I want my work to mean something and impact an entire generation of children. It’s time for us to put ourselves center stage and show our children that they are more than enough, despite what the media tells them. Thank you for visiting my website! I hope you’ll take some time to look around.
